RealD, the world’s leading outfitter of 3D movie theatres, has partnered with Greater Union Filmpalast (GUF), operator of the Cinestar circuit, the largest in Germany, to launch its 3D rollout in the German market. The multiyear exclusive agreement will see the rollout begin immediately to tap the summer’s line-up of 3D films.  This agreement builds on RealD’s market leading position and cements the company as the preferred 3D provider in Germany.

“Germany is an important part of our continued European expansion and we’re pleased to partner with top exhibitors like Greater Union Filmpalast to bring the market-leading RealD 3D experience to their Cinestar locations,” stated Bob Mayson, managing director of RealD Europe Ltd. “We’re glad to enter this mutually beneficial relationship as the demand for RealD 3D cinema continues to expand globally.”

David Seargeant, Group MD and CEO of Amalgamated Holdings Limited (AHL), owner of GUF commented “We are delighted to enter a partnership with RealD for our Cinestar circuit”, adding “this marks the first step in our digital strategy for Germany and prepares our cinemas for the incredible line-up of 3D productions.”

Real D’s next-generation technology is deployed across the world’s largest 3D platform with over 8,000 screens under contract and over 2,900 screens installed in more than 45 countries with over 200 exhibition partners. A bright spot for the entertainment industry, RealD 3D is driving box office to the tune of three to four times per screen revenue of the same film on 2D screens.
