Santikos Theatres has invested $7 million on new digital state-of-the-art equipment at the company's eight movie theaters in Texas.

Santikos used the money to buy 88 digital projectors, 27 3D screens as well as D-BOX Motion Seats for the theaters. The company's Silverado 19 IMAX theater north of Houston in Tomball and Palladium IMAX, Silverado 16 and Embassy 14 theaters in San Antonio have already converted their existing 35mm auditoriums into a digital projection format. The other four theaters will be equipped with Barco Digital Cinema projectors in the coming months.

In addition, 27 XpanD-branded 3D screens will be added in time for Alice in Wonderland 3D when the movie is released on March 5.

Initially, Santikos will install D-BOX Motion Seats in its Silverado 16 theater in San Antonio in April. The patented technology will allow the theater to synch the onscreen action with the motion sensations of each seat. There will be individualized settings on the seats to that people will be able to adjust the motion of their seats.

"It has always been our goal to offer our guests the best possible presentation, and provide an experience to remember," says Santikos President John L. Santikos. "We are in the entertainment business and offering the most exciting new technology and amenities give our guests a reason to keep watching the movies with us."

Santikos Theatres was founded in 1915 by Louis Santikos. His son John continues to lead the family owned company.
