Barco turns out record number of 1,000 certified Digital Cinema engineers

Kortrijk, Belgium, 6 October 2010 - Digital Cinema specialist Barco announced today that its worldwide DC training program has turned out more than 1,000 certified service technicians since its inception two years ago. With this remarkable number, Barco tops the list of Digital Cinema projector manufacturers, clearly illustrating the company's deep-rooted commitment to the cinema industry, including service partners, projectionists and exhibitors.

“The spectacular growth of Digital Cinema has created a huge need for in-depth digital projection training,” explains Carol-Anne Ormsby, Certified Service Partners Manager at Barco. “Within the DC community, exhibitors and service partners grow increasingly aware that having the best possible projector technology simply isn't enough; you also need the right skills and knowledge to support you as you move from analog to digital technology.”

“That's why Barco has invested heavily in the creation of dedicated DC training centers in North America (Sacramento, CA), Asia (Beijing, China) and Europe (Kuurne, Belgium). We also have an additional training institute for Latin America which will soon open its doors in Sao Paulo, Brazil,” Ormsby adds. “Each of these training institutions acts as a center of excellence, providing service engineers with the theoretical as well as nuts-and-bolts information, which really helps them lift their support level up to the market's high expectations.”

Barco's training curriculum consists of two levels, each of which is presented in a classroom plus hands-on format. In level one, participants are taught the basics of projector installation and maintenance. Level two covers advanced diagnostics and more complex service interventions. Both courses are packed with vital projector information, best practices, hands-on demonstrations and diagnostic fault-finding exercises.

Upon successful completion of each class, participants are tested on both the theoretical and application-specific aspects of Barco Digital Cinema projectors. Ultimately, in order to gain the 'Approved Service Partner” certification, each technician must successfully pass a practical and a theoretical examination.

New training facility in Sacramento, USA

Barco also announced the opening of a brand-new Digital Cinema training facility in Sacramento, CA. With more than $500,000 in state-of-the-art equipment, a faculty of experts and comprehensive courses in installation and service, the center promises to offer the highest quality training experience available.

“We are very excited about the grand opening of our new technical training facility. Providing certification training to our partners and customers is a critical component of our commitment to ensuring a quality ownership experience,” commented Scott Nipper, Training Manager, North America for Barco.
